Norway Child Row: Do Indian parents misbehave with kids?
Following last year's custody battle between Norwegian authorities and a Indian family, another case has come to the light. Oslo police have arrested an Indian techie and his wife on charges of scolding their seven-year-old kid.
V Chandrasekhar, an IT professional, and his wife Anupama, native of Hyderabad, moved to Oslo since 18 months ago. Oslo authorities arrested the couple as they scolded their child Sriram for wetting his school uniform. Apparently, Sriram told his School teachers that his parents were harsh with him and scared to go home. The Norway Child Protective Service (NCPS) took the boy into custody and served notice to the couple.
Four days after Oslo police arrested Chandrasekhar and Anupama, their family back home is clueless how to get them back. L Veerabadhra Rao, father-in-law of arrested Tata Consultancy Services engineer Chandrasekhar, has requested the Indian government to help him bring back the couple to India.
"If parents reprimand their child of wrongdoing, is it in any way a crime? We are completely taken aback," said V Sailender, a close relative, on Friday, Nov 30.
The External Affairs Ministry has stepped in offering consular assistance to the Indian couple in Norway.
Last year a Bengali couple, Sagarika and Anurup Bhattacharya also had a similar experience in Norway. The Norwegian authorities took their kids away from them on allegations that the parents were mistreating them.
