Liverpool, Dec 1: Anfield has not been a great hunting ground for Liverpool recently, winning only four in 16 Premier League matches and the Reds host 18th placed Southampton side who have won three of their last four visits at Anfield.

Reds manager Brendan Rodgers still fancies a top four spot and he hopes his side go all guns against the Saints weak defence. Loss at Tottenham last time out ended Liverpool's eight match unbeaten run but the fans will be keen to see their side win two consecutive home games after a gap of 14 long months.

Southampton are on a run of four unbeaten games and clinched their first away win of the season against Queens Park Rangers. Nigel Adkins will be determined to get a result at Anfield which could see his side out of the relegation zone.

Meanwhile, the Saints have the worst defensive record in the league so far, conceding 31 goals, the most by any side.

Liverpool welcome back Brazilian defensive midfielder Lucas Leiva after a three-month absence due to a thigh injury. Joe Cole has also recovered from a hamstring injury but could be benched against the Saints.

Southampton goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga is set to start in goal despite several mistakes in the last few games. The 20-year-old Argentine is under immense pressure after his mistake allowed Norwich to equalise on Wednesday.
