Ahmedabad, Nov 30: The political scenario in Gujarat has been changing day by day as the assembly elections are round the corner. Now, Congress seems to have used its trump card to weaken Narendra Modi providing ticket to the Chief Minister's bete noire Sanjeev Bhatt's wife Shweta.

Putting an end to all speculations, Congress on Friday, Nov 30 announced that Mrs Bhatt will file her nomination soon and will contest in the poll.

Shweta

Shweta, wife of suspended IPS officer Sanjeev Bhatt, has reportedly already begun her poll campaigning against Modi. Shweta earlier had asserted that the state is not a fiefdom of an individual but it is the responsibility of everyone living in the state to make it free from fear.

Sanjeev Bhatt is facing prosecution in 20-year-old case of custodial death and it is most likely that he could be arrested at any point of time.

He was suspended when he hurled stern accusations against the CM over Godhra riots in the state in 2002. When Bhatt was arrested in 2012 in a fake affidavit case in which he was charged with misusing the name of his subordinate official to frame the CM, Shweta had openly come out in defence of her husband and had written to the then Union Home Minister P Chidambaram fearing threat to Bhatt's life.

Results of pre-election opinion polls claim that Modi would retain his power in the state where elections will be held in two phases on Dec 13 and 17. Congress, which has been struggling to woo the voters in Gujarat, may try to gain the sympathy votes after giving ticket to Shweta.
