The superstar once was moved by Thackeray's cartoons which had inspired Mr Bachchan to cheat death when he had got severe injuries during shooting of his movie Coolie.
While remembering his relationship with Thackeray, Mr Bachchan recently had tweeted, "When I fought for my life after 'Coolie' accident, he came to visit me in hospital, with a cartoon he had drawn - Yamraj defeated !"
"Yamraj - God of Death, defeated by me..wish I was as proficient a cartoonist as he, for tonight I would wish to draw that for him," said Mr Bachchan while praying for Bal Thackeray.
However, it seems that the 86-year-old Shiv Sena supremo, who was an warrior throughout his life, could not defeat his Yamraj this time but moved many with his philosophy of life.
Mr Bachchan on Saturday also tweeted, "And just a couple of hours back, as I stand next to his still, peaceful, saffron draped body, it is difficult to imagine that he has left us."
Thackeray breathed his last at 3:33 PM. His last right will be held on Sunday. The Shiv Sena chief's body will be kept at Shivaji Park at Dadar in Mumbai for "darshan" from 7 AM onwards on Sunday.
