New Delhi, Nov 13: RSS ideologue S Gurumurthy on Tuesday tweeted saying that he did not give any clean chit to BJP president Nitin Gadkari but later deleted the post.

"I have not given clean chit to NG I cannot give clean chit to any one who I don't know fully I don't know NG at all," Gurumurthy said in one of his posts at around 12:30 pm.

Later, after his posts stirred up a fresh controversy, Gurumurthy said that his tweet was misinterpreted. According to Gurumurthy, he said that the media allegations brought against Gadkari were false and if that meant he had given a clean chit to Gadkari, then it was so.

Gurumurthy, a leading chartered accountant, was asked by the RSS to persuade the BJP to let Gadkari complete his term as the party president. His tweets came just days after the BJP said that Gadkari was not guilty of any wrongdoing, either legal or moral.

Party spokesperson Ravi Shankar Prasad had said that Gurumurthy had given a clean chit to Gadkari after going through the latter's business documents and gave a presentation to the BJP leaders. The BJP said that it had accepted Gurumurthy's explanation that Gadkari had no direct or indirect interest in the 18 investment firms that had invested in the BJP president's Purti Group.

Gurumurthy also referred to two of his articles published in the Indian Express, saying both of them had exposed the empty charges brought against Gadkari. He said on one of his tweets that misinterpreting his words did not reflect honest journalism. The RSS man also said that it is good if no party president involved in a business for that would only give rise to problems.

Senior BJP leader Lal Krishna Advani was not present in the meeting, which was called by Gurumurthy. Sources indicated that Advani wanted Gadkari to be removed from the post and was eager to become the party chief himself. However, party sources said that Advani did not attend the meeting for Gurumurthy had already given him the presentation earlier in the day. Gadkari, too, was missing from the meeting and the party said he stayed away from so that an open discussion could take place on the corruption charges brought against him.

Anti-corruption activist Arvind Kejriwal had levelled the land scam allegations against Nitin Gadkari during one of his exposes.
