Twist in B'lore rape case, French diplomat files police case
After spending nearly four months in prison, French diplomat Mazurier got bail on Oct 17. Mazurier, who was accused of raping his 4-year-old daughter, has been granted bail by Karnataka High Court. Mazurier said he had complete faith in the Indian judiciary and the allegations against him would fall flat.
Mazurier's Indian wife Suja Jones had accused Mazurier of sexually harassing their 4-year-old daughter and filed a legal complaint with Bangalore police in Jun 2012. Following Suja's complaint, police arrested Mazurier and sent him to judicial custody. A Fast Track Court had rejected Mazurier's bail plea in Jul 2012.
The diplomat, who was the Chief of Joint Chancellerie in the Consulate of France, then moved the High Court seeking bail. Finally, the court granted him bail. However, the diplomat has been asked to surrender his passport and also has been barred from leaving the country without taking permission from the jurisdiction.
In their charge-sheet against the diplomat, Bangalore police said, "He is charged under section 376 of the IPC for raping his minor daughter. During the investigation, he was found guilty."
