New Delhi, Nov 6: Senior BJP leader Rajiv Pratap Rudy on Monday took a dig at Mahesh Jethmalani, saying the manner in which the latter decided to resign from the national executive of the BJP was nothing but an instance of public posturing. He said Jethmalani's act did not reflect well on the status of the saffron party as a big political entity.

Rudy said the irony was that Jethmalani's letter had reached the media even before it reached the party. The former minister also added that Jethmalani's view was his own and he did not want to comment on it aside from repeating that allegations of corruption levelled against BJP president Nitin Gadkari were being probed.

Mahesh Jethmalani, noted lawyer and son of lawyer-turned-politician Ram Jethmalani, had said in his resignation letter on Monday that he found it morally and intellectually wrong to remain a member of the BJP national executive till Gadkari remained the party's president and hence decided to quit.

Mahesh Jethmalani's resignation is considered to be first direct fallout of the allegations of corruption that has been levelled against Gadkari. Till this development, the party had stood firmly behind the man from Maharashtra, saying the fact that Gadkari had agreed to allow a probe against him spoke about his innocence.

Gadkari, meanwhile, courted a fresh controversy on Sunday when he said that the IQ levels of Swami Vivekananda and gangster Dawood Ibrahim were almost same.

It may be mentioned here that Ram Jethmalani, too, said publicly, a few days ago, that Gadkari should resign and not seek a second term as the BJP president.
