Rape:Setback for Heroine;director Madhur Bhandarkar relieved
The Supreme Court dismissed the rape case against the filmmaker who earlier had moved the court stating that proper procedures were not followed during the investigation. Bhandarkar had also claimed that Preeti Jain had filed her statement in the court whereas he did not get any chance to clarify his stand on the case.
The aspiring actress had accused Bhandarkar of taking sexual advantage on the pretext of marriage. The filmmaker was asked to submit his passport and he was not allowed to leave the country without court's permission.
The complaint against Bhandarkar was lodged in 2004 by Ms Jain with the Versova police that he raped her 16 times from 1999-2004 on the grounds that he would cast her in his movies. Bhandarkar was also charged for threatening Ms Jain.
In 2009, Ms Jain moved Andheri court with her complaint after which the police submitted a report stating that there was no evidence of rape against the director. The trail was stayed after which Ms Jain moved a local court in Mumbai. Later, Bhandarkar was granted bail on Nov 14, 2011.
