While replying to Modi's statement, Tharoor on Tuesday, Oct 30 tweeted from his Twitter account, "@narendramodi My wife is worth a lot more than your imaginary 50 crores. She is priceless. But you need2be able2love some1 2understand that."

Earlier on Monday, the Gujarat CM criticised Tharoor while targeting his wife Sundada Pushkar over her alleged involvement in Kochi IPL team following which Tharoor had resigned from the external affairs ministry in 2010.

Modi, while addressing a rally at Mandi in Himachal Pradesh, said, "Wah kya girlfriend hai. Apne kabhi dekha hai 50 crore ka girlfriend (What a girlfriend. Have you ever seen a 50-crore-girl friend)?"

Criticising UPA government for inducting Tharoor once again, Modi said, "Everyone has heard about the minister, taken back on board and rewarded for his conduct. He claimed in the Parliament that he is in no way connected to the Rs 50 crore and that these are in his friend's name. Who has heard of a crorepati girlfriend? And then girlfriend becomes wife, we learn some time later."
