Sarpanch Security: Three terrorists arrested in Kashmir
Of late, militants have been targetting sarpanchs in the state. Jammu and Kashmir had witnessed several protests by sarpanchs demanding safety and security in recent times. The sarpanchs demanded gun licenses to protect themselves in the wake of murders of two local body leaders
Nearly 140 sarpanchs had resigned and almost an equal number demanded that they be issued gun licenses till the time the state government does not take concrete steps to deal with the menace.
The Union Home Ministry is cautious over providing security to some of the 32,335 sarpanches and panches facing threats from militants in Jammu and Kashmir.
Officials believe only genuine cases would be entertained, given its implication on the security apparatus.
