Sources indicate that Congress is desperate to bring Rahul into the cabinet as part of his grooming programme, so that he can don the hat of Prime Minister of India after 2014 General Elections.
Sources say a proposal has been debated to form a separate ministry of 'social development' for Rahul. The ministry would draw in part from various ministries like social welfare, tribal and dalit welfare, rural development to give a holistic feel to the entire issue of social development and infrastructure.
As talks of a cabinet reshuffle surfaced, speculations are rife that Rahul might be inducted into the cabinet.
Sources say that cabinet reshuffle is likely to take place after Dussehra.
Congress general secretary Rahul met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and President Pranab Mukherjee recently. Party sources said that Rahul met Manmohan Singh and Pranab Mukerjee to discuss issues relating to cabinet reshuffle.
Analysts say that Congress-led UPA government will offer Rahul a cabinet berth to groom him for Prime Minister's post in the near future. Moreover, general election are slated for 2014.
Along with Rahul getting a plump post, few of his fellow young colleagues will also be inducted into the cabinet, said reports. Some of the young ministers like Sachin Pilot, Jyotiraditya Scindia and Jitin Prasada may get promoted to Cabinet rank or get independent charge as Minister of State.
