New Delhi, Oct 17: As talks of a cabinet reshuffle surfaced, speculations are rife that Rahul Gandhi might be inducted into the cabinet. Is Rahul being given a cabinet post heralds his way forward for Prime Minister's chair?

Sources say that cabinet reshuffle is likely to take place after Dussehra.

Congress general secretary Rahul met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Wednesday, Oct 17 and is likely to head to Rashtrapati Bhavan to meet President Pranab Mukherjee. Party sources said that Rahul met Manmohan Singh to discuss cabinet reshuffle. Rahul is again likely to discuss cabinet reshuffle with President.

Analysts say that Congress-led UPA government will offer Rahul a cabinet berth to groom him for Prime Minister's post in the near future. Moreover, general election are slated for 2014.

Along with Rahul getting a plump post, few of his fellow young colleagues will also be inducted into the cabinet, said reports. Some of the young ministers like Sachin Pilot, Jyotiraditya Scindia and Jitin Prasada may get promoted to Cabinet rank or get independent charge as Minister of State.

Speculation of an imminent cabinet reshuffle gained fresh momentum on Tuesday as the Prime Minister and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi met the President separately.

There has been speculation about reshuffle in the Cabinet for quite some time now, especially after the exit of Trinamool Congress ministers both at the levels of Cabinet and Ministers of State levels. There have been berths vacated by DMK representatives A Raja and Dayanidhi Maran in the last two years after their names cropped in the 2G scam. However, DMK president M Karunanidhi recently made it clear that his party would not like to reclaim their lost berths.
