Twist in Varsha Bhosle's suicide case over Asha's 'lost' gun
Asha's son, Anand Bhosle on Saturday, Oct 13 informed investigating officials that Asha had lost Belgian-make 0.6 calibre pistol which Varsha had used to kill herself at their residence Prabhu Kunj on posh Pedder Road in South Mumbai on Oct 8.
Anand's statement might have confused the police who earlier had claimed that the pistol was registered on the name of Anand and it was kept safely at their residence. On the contrary, Asha Bhosle issued a statement saying that she was the owner of the weapon and had earlier misplaced it.
Anand in his statement to police also claimed that he did not have any dispute with Varsha, though they used to have arguments like any other brother and sister but it was nothing serious.
Police official earlier had informed that they had recorded statements of Asha's sister Usha Mangeshkar, maid Dipali Mane and driver Vijay. They also have questioned Asha and her elder sister, legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar.
Varsha was suffering from depression and was under psychiatric treatment for the same. Varsha allegedly had tried to end her life thrice since her divorce from her sports-columnist husband in 1998.
Varsha's viscera sample has been sent for test. Police sources said the woman's post-mortem report confirmed she died of haemorrhagic shock due to bullet injuries. Three loaded cartridges were found in the pistol.
