Shameermon, Prajusha get Kerala's top sports awards

Thiruvananthapuram, Oct 12: Athletes Shameermon and Prajusha have been chosen for Kerala government's highest sports awards instituted in memory of late Lt Colonel Godavarama Raja. Announcing the awards here, Sports Minister KB Ganesh Kumar said they were chosen for the honour in view of their performances at international events. The award carries a cash prize of Rs one lakh each and a citation.

Shameermon was chosen for the award for his participation in 4x100 metre relay in the 14th Commonwealth Games at New Delhi in 2010. Prajusha was selected for the honour for her silver medal winning performance in the long jump in Commonwealth Games. The awards were instituted in memory of Lt Col Godavarma Raja, a prominent sports promoter and the founder president of Kerala Sports Council.

Ansar S Raj of Kerala Kaumudi daily won the award for the best sports write-up and Jomon Pampavali of Janayugom won the best photography award. Jeena Paul of Manorama News was selected for the best sports programme in the visual medium. The selections were made by a panel headed by Sports Council president Padmini Thomas.
