Ahmedabad, Oct 7: Narendra Modi and Sonia Gandhi have begun their poll campaigns in Gujarat as the bell of the state assembly election is ringing. The leaders have been on tight schedules in the poll bound state, though experts believe that Mrs Gandhi can not bar Modi to win the assembly elections for the third consecutive time.

The poll survey result

Recently, LensOnNews conducted a survey among a representative sample of 7294 voters spread over 52 assembly constituencies across the state finds that the BJP is set to garner 50 per cent of the vote in the coming election and that this would translate into a tally of 133 seats, a share of more than 70 per cent in the 182-seat assembly.

According to the survey results, BJP will gain only one per cent of vote share but would get 16 more seats as compared to its 2007 tally. On the contrary, the Congress is slated to maintain its 38 per cent vote share but get only 43 seats - a drop of 16 seats from its 2007 tally.

It seems that Congress' promise of allocating free houses for the urban poor in Gujarat would not help the party as it would be difficult to owe the Gujaratis who have seem tremendous development in the state under Modi's rule.

In order to owe the people of Gujarat, Modi has already announced disbursement of house-building subsidies to BPL families, 50 per cent waiver of loan interest to farmers, raising the recruitment age for government employees. At the same time, Congress has not yet declared the name of its Chief Minister candidate.

Along with Congress, former Gujarat CM Keshubhai Patel, who launched his new party to compete with Modi, has also failed to make a dent in the BJP's vote share, say experts.

Other political parties such as Samajwadi Party (SP), BSP and NCP, who have expressed their intention to join the battle of Gujarat poll, are believed to cut Congress' votes marginally.

Gujarat elections will be held in two phases on Dec 13 and Dec 17 respectively and the results will be announced on Dec 20. Experts believe that Dec 20 poll results would definitely leave a great impact on BJP in national level.
