Rajkot, Oct 4: Gujarat poll campaign has become a national issue as its Chief Minister Narendra Modi hits back at the Centre and Congress President Sonia Gandhi again and again. Continuing to show his rage against Congress, the CM on Thursday, Oct 4 called the party a "cheater".

During a rally Dahod, Modi on Thursday accused Congress of defaming his state Gujarat and hurled allegations against the party saying that it had not kept its promise of providing jobs to youths.

Modi did not even spare Mrs Gandhi who has kicked off her campaign in the poll-bound state on Wednesday. Mocking at Mrs Gandhi and her speech, Modi said, "she (Sonia) had addressed a rally in Chote Udepur where Congress lost. Now they will lose in Rajkot where she held a rally yesterday," and also claimed, "BJP will win all seats in Rajkot."

Speaking about local newspapers' coverage on Sonia's rally, Modi said, "Sonia's speech had nothing in it, newspapers didn't even publish it, only put big pictures. Cong has nothing to say here."

Modi's attacks on Congress and Sonia intensified just hours after the announcement of poll dates by the Election Commission (EC). Voters of 182 constituencies in Gujarat will exercise their franchise in two phases on Dec 13 and Dec 17.

In Gujarat, 13 assembly seats have been reserved for candidates belonging to the Scheduled Castes (SCs) and 26 for Scheduled Tribe candidates (STs). The state has 3.78 crore voters in all. Vote counting will be held on Dec 20.

Modi-led BJP will try to get a third consecutive victory. In 2007, BJP had bagged as many as 117 seats even as Congress had to rest content with 59.
