New Delhi, Oct 1: Trinamool Congress (TMC) chief and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata will address a rally at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi on Monday to protest the Centre's decision to allow FDI in multi-brand retail. The TMC pulled out of the UPA government on Sept 18 to protest FDI in multi-brand retail, hike in diesel prices and putting a cap on subsidised LPG cylinders.

Senior TMC leader and former Union minister Saugata Roy said the government was burdening the common people in the name of reforms and his party did not support such a move. Mamata Banerjee was expected to address the rally at around 2 pm. All party leaders had already reached the venue.

Experts said, through this rally, Mamata was not only hijacking the Left's issue and project itself as the major opposition to the Centre but also make an effort to flex its muscle in the national capital.

Meanwhile, the Congress decided to hold a counter-rally in Kolkata to educate people against Mamata's allegedly spreading misconception about FDI in retail.
