London, Sep 27: Chelsea are ready to break the bank for Atletico Madrid hitman Radamel Falcoa. The European Champions are ready to splash nearly £45 million for the Columbian international during the January transfer window.
Blues owner Roman Abramovich is ready to bring Falcao, 27, to Stamford Bridge after running out of patience with £50 million flop striker Fernando Torres. The Spaniard has scored only twice in five appearances for Chelsea and has failed to regain his form.
However, although Falcao scored a hat-trick against Chelsea in the UEFA Super Cup, the Blues have made the former Porto star their number 1 target.
Chelsea have nearly spent £100 million this summer transfers window signing young talents like Eden Hazard, Oscar, Marko Marin, Cesar Azpicuelta and Victor Moses. Manager Roberto Di Matteo plans to use his high profile signing around Torres, but the former Liverpool man remains goal shy after showing glimpses of a return to top form.
Since the departure of legend Didier Drogba, Torres has been Chelsea's frontrunner and first-choice to fill in the gap upfront, but has been under pressure to perform for the West Londoners.
Chelsea are preparing the groundwork to land Falcao and seal a deal before any other club can counter-bid.
