Fresh clash erupts in Cairo between protesters and police
The protesters, mainly comprising teenagers, pelted police with stones to which, the latter responded by firing tear gas. All roads leading to the embassy were littered with stones, an agency report said.
The protesters surrounded the embassy and Tahrir Square, which was the epicentre of the Cairo protests that led to the downfall of the long-entrenched dictatorial regime of Hosni Mubarak a few months ago. The Muslim Brotherhood, the country's largest political group, has asked for peaceful protests outside mosques across the country following the noon prayer.
On Thursday, several protesters gathered outside the US embassy and some even entered the premises and brought down a US flag. Over 220 people were injured in Thursday's clash.
