After 17 days of Jal Satyagraha MP govt blinks to demands
The protest saw its logical end when the state government conceded to their demands putting an end to the agonising protest that saw villagers immersed in neck deep water for the last 17 days.
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, in an obvious meltdown of stand, has agreed to form a five-member committee that will look into the protestors demands within the next three months. In a move to rehabilitate the villagers, the CM has also conceded to a land for land demand as per the GRA order.
For this purpose, the villagers will return 50 per cent of the compensation allotted to them by the state government in return for the promise of land.
The agitation has been under the media glare after the villagers kickstarted their protest demanding the lowering of the water level of the Narmada river dam. The movement had kickstarted a fortnight ago.
A central team of observers will visit the site to carry out a survey. The Madhya Pradesh CM is also expected to announce a similar package for the Indira Sagar Dam protesters.
