Manchester, Sept 8: Striker Wayne Rooney said that he wants to end his career with Manchester United after admitting that handing over a transfer request two years ago was the biggest mistake of his career.

In an interview with Talksport radio on Friday, Rooney, 26, revealed that he wants to stay at Old Trafford, saying: "Hopefully still here at Man Utd. That's the aim, the plan and what I want to do."

"As long as this club wants me, I'll be here and trying to be successful," he added.

In his latest autobiography, 'My Decade in the Premier League' which is being serialised by the Daily Mirror, Rooney revealed he regrets handing over a transfer request in Sept 2010.

"In Sept 2010 my ankle puts me on the sidelines. I get frustrated with myself, my game, my injury and everything around me. I'm stuck in a cycle of bad form but I can't get out of it. And that's when I make the biggest mistake of my football career," he wrote.

Rooney, who suffered a nasty injury during United's 3-2 win over Fulham at Old Trafford, said he wants to get back on the pitch and build a partnership with £24m summer signing Robin van Persie.

"I am looking forward to getting back into the team and trying to forge an understanding with Van Persie," Rooney said.

The England international also said he wants to return to action only after recovering completely.

"Overall, I think at the most I will miss four games," Rooney said. "The injury is going well. It could have been a lot worse than what it was. It is up to the doctor. When he declares me fit I will be ready."

"What I don't want to happen is to come back too early when it is not quite healed and it opens up again first game. That would just set me back again another four weeks," he said.
