Teachers' Day: Prez Pranab Mukherjee to give National Awards
The president will give the awards on the Teachers' Day which is celebrated in the country on Sept 5, birthday of Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, the former President of India.
The award ceremony, which has been organised by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Department of School Education and Literacy, will be held at the Vigyan Bhavan in New Delhi.
In order to give public recognition to meritorious teachers working in primary, middle and secondary schools, the awards were instituted for the first time in 1958.
Besides this, the scheme also covers the teachers of the schools affiliated to Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) including teachers of independent affiliated schools situated abroad, Council for Indian School Certificate Examination (CISCE), Sainik School, Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS), Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS), Central Tibetan School Administration (CTSA) and schools run by the Atomic Energy Education Society.
"Special Awards" also will be given to those teachers who promote inclusive education for the children with disabilities both in the special or regular schools.
