According to investigators, the accused had been depressed for some time. Ravi (22) first killed his cousin Naveen at the latter's rented accommodation in Bindapur. After hiding the body under a bed, Ravi targetted his sister-in-law Renu.
When Naveen's landlady Sheela Garg came to flat on hearing the noise, Ravi pumped three bullets into the 53-year-old woman apparently because she had witnessed Renu's murder.
Sheila's son Dinesh made an attempt to stop the accused. However, Ravi brandished an automatic pistol and another gun. Dinesh could only watch as Ravi drove off in a Hyundai Santro.
Around 1.45 pm, the accused met Renu's father Harender Singh (50) who lives in Bhojpur, Uttar Pradesh. Ravi demanded that Harender's 17-year-old daughter Baby be married off to him.
Harender and Baby made it clear to Ravi that his proposal is not acceptable to them. He then shot both but this time he could not escape from the spot. The villagers surrounded Harender's house. Ravi tried to threaten them by firing into the crowd. Seeing that they were not budging, he went into a room and finally turned the gun on himself.
Police officials said that Renu had developed an illicit relationship with Ravi. He initially insisted that she leave Naveen. Later, he started pestering Renu to allow Baby to marry him. Her rejection of the proposal seems to have triggered the killing spree.
