Sonia Gandhi plays power politics with Mulayam; Rahul happy?
Mrs Gandhi earlier had urged the Uttar Pradesh government to deliver 24x7 power to Rae Bareli and Amethi, the two constituencies of Mrs Gandhi and the Gandhi family scion, respectively.
Mrs Gandhi on Saturday, Sep 1 went to the Samajwadi Party chief and thanked him for approving her demand over power supply. Soon after the first adjournment in the Parliament, Mrs Gandhi personally met Mulayam Singh and appreciated the work and gesture of the SP in Akhilesh Yadav-led UP government.
Earlier on Tuesday, the state government announced that Rae Bareli and Amethi along with Lucknow, Agra, Etawah, Mainpuri and Kannauj would enjoy uninterrupted power supply.
An official statement by the UP Power Corporation Limited says that the urban areas of these towns would now be exempted from power cuts and they would enjoy round-the-clock power supply. This move by the Samajwadi Party has been taken at a time when speculations surfaced saying that Mulayam Singh might have aimed to form a third font eyeing on the power at the central government.
The SP supremo recently had arranged a non-Congress, non-BJP meeting to break the deadlock in Parliament over the coal scam and this meeting might be his first step towards New Delhi.
