Massive Left Front rally cripples life in Kolkata

Kolkata, Sep 1: A massive rally called by the Left Front against the 'evils of imperialism' crippled Kolkata on Saturday afternoon.

The rally, which started at Rani Rasmani Road around 1.30 pm, was attended by Left leaders like Biman Bose, Surjya kanta Mishra, Nirupam Sen, Gautam Deb and other leaders.

The rally choked the heart of the city and threw the traffic out of order. School buses carrying children and ambulances with patients inside were not spared either. Common people faced a harrowing time while negotiating their way out of the mess in the intense heat.

The Left leadership addressed the rally at Deshbandhu Park in Shyambazar in the northern part of the city where the rally concluded around 3.30 pm.

The ruling party in Bengal as well as the opposition have been flexing muscles over calling mega rallies, which paralyse normal lifestyle and affect work of millions.
