Former Union Min and ex-BJP stalwart Kashiram Rana no more

Ahmedabad, Aug 31: Former Union Minister and ex-BJP leader Kashiram Rana has passed away. He died due to heart attack in Ahmedabad's UN Mehta hospital. Dissident BJP leader Rana had quit the BJP in July this year and joined hands with Keshubhai Patel and Gordhan Zadafia in the newly formed Gujarat Parivartan Party.

Rana was in Ahmedabad to attend Gujarat Parivartan Party's state executive meeting. It was close to 1:30 am when he complained of chest pain and some uneasiness. He was rushed to the UN Mehta hospital where he was later declared dead. The party's executive meeting was cancelled following the news of his death. 

Born on Apr 7, 1938, one of the tall leaders of the BJP in the early years, Rana was elected MLA in Gujarat assembly for the first time in 1975 from Surat East seat.
