The forgotten United striker was linked with various clubs in Turkey and Italy before Fulham made a late move for the former Tottenham striker.
Berbatov, who has a £5m price-tag, was first approached by Italy club Fiorentina. The 31-year old was set to fly to Florence for further talks with Fiorentina but Juventus intervened to hijack Berbatov with a surprise offer.
Berbatov missed his flight to Florence and was heading towards Turin for talks with Juventus but the Cottagers sneaked in at the last moment to persuade the striker to stay in the Premier League. Juventus, Berbatov's first choice, had also offered £2m a year package.
The striker's sudden u-turn sparked a furious reaction from Fiorentina.
"The player got on the flight with his agent and on tickets paid for by Fiorentina. He never arrived in Florence. This was down to outlandish and arrogant behaviour of other clubs, who have nothing to do with fair play and sporting ethics that go even beyond the confines of fairness," the club said in a statement.
"As for the player, apart from his characteristics and his value on the field, we are happy he didn't come to Fiorentina. He did not deserve our city, to wear our jersey or the values that represent it."
However, Juventus have now set their sights on Arsenal striker Niklas Bendtner, who had reportedly drawn interests from AC Milan.
Berbatov will be reunited with Martin Jol after his stint with former club Tottenham Hotspur.
