EPL 2012-13: Top transfer news and rumours on August 23

  • Chelsea have completed the signing of Cesar Azpilicueta from Marseille in a deal worth £7million.
  • Sunderland have completed the signing of 25-year old Wolves striker Steven Fletcher. The Potteries will pay an initial fee of £12m which could add up to £14m depending on performance and other add-ons.
  • Wolves winger Matt Jarvis has joined West Ham United for a record breaking fee of £10.75m
  • Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers admitted that the Reds are closing in on signing Nuri Sahin from Real Madrid.
  • Manchester United are targeting Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Rafael van der Vaart while Hamburg are also planning to bring back the 29-year-old Dutch midfielder.
  • Chelsea centre-back David Luiz is a surprise target for Spanish giants Barcelona. The Catalans want the £30m-rated Brazilian before the transfer deadline.
  • Real Madrid and Manchester United target Moussa Dembele. Moussa Dembele is also wanted by Tottenham boss Andre Villas-Boas. The Fulham playmaker has a £15m buy-out clause.
  • Chelsea are nearing the signing of Wigan Athletic for Victor Moses after the two clubs agreed terms.
  • Manchester City wants to sign Athletic Bilbao midfielder Javi Martinez. The Spaniard will cost £30m but German giants Bayern Munich have firm favourites to sign the 23-year-old.
  • Manchester City wants Inter Milan right-back Maicon in a swap deal for midfielder Nigel de Jong.
  • Theo Walcott is yet to sign a contract extension at the Emirates as Arsenal eye Spain attacker Jesus Navas.
