Assam MLA arrested for alleged involvement in violence

Guwahati, Aug 23: The embers of the Assam violence still seem to be searing in certain parts of the state. Following this, an MLA from Assam has been arrested after suspected involvement in the Assam unrest. The MLA from the Bodoland people's Front, Pradeep Brahma was arrested by the Assam police and slapped with seven charges.

Brahma was arrested from Kokrajhar and his arrest was made on the basis of statements of witnesses. An indefinite curfew has been ordered in the volatile Kokrajhar area as a precautionary measure.

Wednesday saw the death of 2 people in a firing incident that has heightened tensions in the area.
