Jundal relegates cops to delivery boys;asks bheja fry at 5am
Taking a cue from Kasab, Abu Jundal, who is in custody of the ATS and the brain behind planning and execution of the 26/11 terror attacks across India, has been making similar demands for such exotic delicacies like bheja fry and malai during odd hours with the prison guards.
Some of the mouth-watering delicacies on offer to Jundal as part of the roza as he is fasting during the holy month of Ramadan include dry khajoor (dates), milk, malai, kheema and bheja fry. These items have been requested by Jundal for sehri, his first meal of the day at 5 am.
The police and security officials have no other option but to concede to his demands wary of being accused of hurting religious sentiments. The role of the security personnel is relegated to that of delivery boys.
An officer with the Mumbai ATS, who did not want to be named, has been quoted as saying, "He (Jundal) asks for dry khajoor (dates), milk, malai, kheema and bheja fry. It is tough to arrange for these items in the early hours of the day. But we do not want to hurt anyone's religious sentiments, even if the person is a terrorist. Every day, a constable ventures out around 5 am to fetch his meal, so that he can observe Roza."
The officer also added sarcastically, "At times we request the Muslim organisations around our office, or individuals who observe Roza, to help us with the arrangements. We also have to ensure that the food is not too spicy."
In Aug 2009, Kasab had stirred controversy when he refused to eat the food offered to him in jail and demanded mutton biryani instead. Judge ML Tahaliyani had reprimanded him for is attitude.
