Against Navruzov, Sushil secured 3 points in the first period. His opponent had to remain content with a sole point. Though the Uzbek got the better of Sushil in the dying moments of the second period, the Indian champion convincingly won the third period and with it the bout.
Earlier, Sushil had stunned Turkey's Ramazan Sahin, who bagged gold at Beijing four years ago, in his opening bout. Sahin led after the first period but Sushil came back strongly in the next two to win 3-1.
Sushil had won bronze at the 2008 Games. If he wins the next match, he will get either silver or gold. In case he loses, Sushil will have to fight one more grappler to secure the bronze.
