Police arrested Pathan, the security guard on Thursday, Aug 9. Pathan, soon after his arrest, confessed his crime saying that he tried to rape 25-year-old Pallavi Purkayastha but he killed her when he failed to fulfil his desire of lust.
Pathan claimed that he was "obsessed" about Pallavi and had been stalking her since a long time. He also informed that he got upset when Pallavi yelled at him following an altercation a couple of days ago.
Pallavi was found dead with her throat slit in her rented flat in Mumbai's Wadala area on Thursday morning. Her live-in partner first located the body.
Initially, all needles of suspicion were pointed at Pallavi's partner, 26-year-old Avik Sengupta. Police questioned Avik but did not get any crucial information about Pallavi's death.
Meanwhile, many people informed that Pathan was the last person who visited Pallavi's flat on Wednesday night. Police began search operation to locate Pathan who did not turn up at his workplace on Thursday. Finally, he was arrested from Central Railway Station. The investigators also found the murder weapon from Pathan.
While informing about the murder, police officials have been quoted as saying, "Pallavi, daughter of an IAS couple in Delhi, was found in a pool of blood at her rented flat in Himalayan Heights in Wadala building by Avik Sengupta (26), who is also a lawyer."
"Pallavi's body had multiple stab injuries. The scene of crime indicates she struggled to save herself. When Avik returned home on Thursday morning at around 5:30 AM, he found that the door was slightly opened...he went inside and found the blood-soaked body of Pallavi with the throat slit, following which he informed the police," added the police officials.
