Cash for bail: Janardhan Reddy's bro, K'taka MLA arrested

Bangalore/Hyderabad, Aug 6: Janardhana Reddy's brother and Karnataka MLA Somashekhara Reddy has been arrested from Hyderabad on Monday, Aug 6. Somashekhara was the second MLA to be arrested over cash-for-bail scam.

Somshekhara earlier was summoned by Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) in Hyderabad for questioning. Somshekhara reached ACB office in Hyderabad on Monday from where the officials took him under custody for questioning.

Janardhana Reddy's brother has been accused of playing a major role in the scam. Earlier BJP's Kampli MLA TH Suresh Babu was also arrested over the same case.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in its report to ACB accused Somashekhar Reddy, Suresh Babu, Dasaratha Ram Reddy (Gali's relative), advocate T Aditya, retired judges TV Chalapathi Rao, Pattabhirama Rao of plotting a conspiracy for granting bail in terms of multi-crore bribe.

Civil fast track court judge Laxminarsimha Rao, who was also accused of taking part in the conspiracy, was suspended and later arrested.

Following his arrest, Rao also claimed that Reddy's relatives were ready to offer as much as Rs 100 crore to secure bail for him.

Mining czar Janardhana Reddy and his brother-in-law and MD of OMCV, Srinivas Reddy were arrested for their alleged involvement in the illegal mining scam on Sept 5, 2011 from Bellary, Karnataka. Janardhana Reddy is currently lodged at the Bangalore Central Prison.
