Singh's whole hearted backing on Team Anna taking the political route also gave out indications that he himself could take an active interest for a political career. The fact that Singh played an active role in compelling Anna to break his fast hints at this. Singh, during his tumultuous career as Army chief, have had several face-offs with the government over the age issue as well as on the army preparedness in the event of war.
Singh was also seen in the public space when he joined agitators who were against the building of a nuclear plant in Fatehabad in Haryana. His open opposition to such public welfare causes only indicates his keenness to join the political circles.
Speaking for the first time at a public platform after his retirement as Army chief, Singh has been quoted as saying that people should throw the corrupt out of power and support the alternative political force sponsored by Anna. He also added, "We are directionless, we need political alternative." He compared the present political situation to 1975 when Emergency was declared.
