London, Aug 3: Defending champions Germany drubbed India 5-2 in a one-sided match at the Riverbank Arena on Friday. The Germans took the lead at the 8th minute through Florian Fuchs after Indians made a speedy start. The Germans made a video referral over a penalty corner but drag-flicker Sandip Singh failed to draw level. VR Raghunath made it 1-1 from a penalty corner off Sardara Singh at the 13th minute.

However, it was only Germany from then onwards and they netted in another three goals to go up 4-1 at the interval. Florian Fuchs, Oliver Korn and Christopher Wesley were the scorers at the 16th, 24th and 34th minutes, respectively.

Soon after the interval, Fuchs scored his third in the match (36th minute) and fourth in the tournament. Raghunath missed a chance to convert a penalty corner with just 22 minutes left in the match. Tushar Khendker reduced the gap at the 62nd minute but it was all too late for the Indians, who bowed out of the tournament with the third successive goal.

India had lost 2-3 against the Netherlands and 1-3 against New Zealand in their previous matches.

Kim Hong-Lae of Korea and Gary Simmonds of South Africa were the two umpires in the match.
