Though he started well and even led 3-2 after the first round, Bhagwan could not land enough blows on the fifth seed in the next two rounds.
The Kazakh boxer was always going to be tough to handle for Bhagwan. Both had earlier clashed in the quarter finals of the World Championships where Zhailauov emerged the winner and went on to win the bronze medal.
Today Bhagwan threw a lot of punches in the second round but his opponent dodged most of them. While Zhailauov delivered quite a few telling blows of his own, a warning from the referee also cost the Indian one point.
Since he was trailing 6-12 by then, Bhagwan tried desperately to reduce the margin in the third round. However, the Kazakh proved to be smarter and triumphed by 16-8 in the end.
