Team Anna supporters agitate outside PC's house in Chennai

Chennai, Jul 29: More than 70 supporters of Team Anna were detained on Sunday after they staged a demonstration outside the residence of Union Home Minister P Chidambaram here. The protesters raised slogans against Chidambaram and demanded an inquiry by a Special Investigation Team into the allegations of corruption against 15 Central ministers, including him.

Police said the demonstrators were detained. Following the protest, security has been tightened in the area. The protest comes a day after Team Anna supporters staged a protest outside the Prime Minister's residence in Delhi.

Chidambaram to visit Assam tomorrow

Meanwhile, sources in New Delhi said Chidambaram will visit violence-hit areas of Assam on Monday for two days and review the security situation and relief and rehabilitation measures.

Chidambaram, who has been monitoring the Assam situation ever since clashes between Bodos and immigrant minorities broke out, will meet top civil and police officials and take stock of the law and order situation in four violence-hit districts, namely, Kokrajhar, Chirang, Dhubri and Bongaigaon.

The Union Home Minister is also expected to visit a few relief camps and review the relief and rehabilitation steps taken for those who lost their kin and suffered losses during the violence which so far claimed more than 50 lives.

The Home Minister is likely to hold separate meetings with Assam Governor J B Patnaik, Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi and his council of ministers.

Prime Minister Manomohan Singh and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi along with other Congress ministers had visited Kokrajhar on Saturday where he announced a Rs 300 crore package for the affected people.

The Union Home Ministry has so far deployed 11,600 paramilitary personnel in the violence-hit state.
