Rs 1,500 cr loans to be provided to SHG women in AP: CM

Rajahmundry (AP), Jul 15: The Andhra Pradesh government will provide loans worth Rs 1,500 crore to women working for SHGs in rural areas, Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy has said.

The state government is giving utmost importance to women and working for their development in the state, in view of which it would provide Rs 1,500 crore loans to women through Sri Nidhi Bank, Reddy said yesterday, while meeting women working for self-help groups (SHGs) at Pedagaddea village in Ramapachodavaram Mandal of East Godavari district, as a part of the 'Indiramma Bata' programme.

"The state government is taking all initiatives to further strengthen women in the society and will provide interest-free loans to all women (working for SHGs) in the state," he said, adding that if an application is received by bank from a woman, the loan will be provided within 48 hours.

Later, he distributed loans worth Rs 3.86 lakh to SHG women. He said 1,500 Sri Shakti buildings will constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 25 lakh each in 1,200 mandals.

He directed the medical officials to prepare a comprehensive plan to upgrade the existing Ramapachodavaram hospital to a 100-bed facility and to fill vacant posts of doctors soon.

He said colleges including polytechnic and schools would be set up in the agency area of Ramapachodavaram and a bridge will be constructed at Cherukupalem village. He also assured the people that power crisis in the state would be resolved by this month-end. Reddy arrived here yesterday on a three-day visit to East Godavari district.
