Laila Khan
Mumbai, Jul 11: The Mumbai police finally had a breakthrough in the Laila Khan murder case after key accused Pervez Tak confessed to have killed the Bollywood starlet and her kin.

According to the police, Tak along with his friend Shakir Hussein, both hailing from Nali Bhunzwah, Kishtwar District, J&K, killed all the six family members after they decided to leave for Dubai. Tak who did not have a passport felt cheated.

Pervez Tak, who is reportedly Laila Khan's step father and her mother Saleena Patel's third husband, alleged that he along with his friend killed Saleena after hitting her with the rod first and later killed all six family members as they confronted him after he hit their mother.

Tak confessed that he kept hitting Laila and her siblings with the iron rod till they bled to death and later buried them. The duo then set Laila's farmhouse in Igatpuri on fire before fleeing to Jammu and Kashmir on separate vehicles.

Tak was reportedly unhappy that Saleena wanted to make Asif Sheikh, her second husband, the in-charge of the family property, while they left for Dubai to solemnise Laila's marriage with Vafi Khan, son of Dawood Ibrahim's close aide, Kamal Jadhwani.

Earlier, the Jammu and Kashmir police confirmed the news that the Pakistani starlet along with her family was killed in Mumbai last year following the revelation by Pervez Tak, who was taken into the police custody in connection with the case.

Tak revealed that the actress was possibly killed for her dubious links with the underworld.

Laila Khan and her family were last seen at a shop in Kishtwar town on May 29. The J&K police also recovered an abandoned car from a lake in Srinagar in which the family was travelling. Reports reveal that the vehicle was registered in the name of the Laila Khan's mother Saleena Patel, a Pakistani actress.

According to Tak's confession earlier, Laila had married a close aide of underworld don Dawood Ibrahim. With her underworld links hogging the limelight, the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) has been on the lookout for the star and her family.

Later, a complaint was lodged with the Mumbai police by Laila Khan's father, Nadir Shah Patel, who alleged that his daughter along with her mother Saleena Patel, her sister Azmina Patel, her stepfather Asif Sheikh and their family friend Pervez Iqbal Tak went missing after they left for Kashmir to attend a wedding.

Sources reveal that Tak was introduced to Laila Khan's mother at a function in Mumbai organised by a NGO. After exchanging numbers, the duo kept in touch. On being invited to Mumbai, Tak did not let the opportunity go and landed in Mumbai. After receiving him at the railway station, Saleena took him to her residence. After staying together for months, she alleged proposed him for marriage, which he agreed to following and began to take care of the family matters.

Meanwhile, the bodies will be taken for a DNA test to confirm the identities of the bodies after the police recovered six skeletons from a farmhouse in Igatpuri near Nashik.

"The motive was destruction of evidence. An iron rod with blood stain was recovered and some jewellery was also found. Three skeletons had skull fractures, and other injuries were also found," said Mumbai Police Jt CP (Crime) Himanshu Roy.

"We are still waiting for the DNA report. We will not reveal the identity till the report is out, but six persons were missing, including Laila Khan."

"Laila Khan drove her car along with her siblings before the murder... accused Pervez also received injuries while he killed Laila and her family members," said Roy further.
