Intelligence rpts:Pak lining up militants against Ind on LoC
According to Lieutenant General Om Prakash, General Officer Commanding (GOC) of Srinagar-based 15 corps, "There are inputs of large concentration of terrorists on launch pads across the LoC which indicates the likelihood of increased infiltration attempts in the future. The army is fully geared up and maintaining a high level of vigil to thwart nefarious designs of the adversary."
Following the reports by intelligence officials, Lieutenant General KT Parnaik, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Northern Command, reportedly flew to Srinagar to assess the security situation in Kashmir. He was also briefed on the operational preparedness and prevailing security environment in the valley. A defence spokesman has been quoted as saying, "The visit assumes importance against the backdrop of renewed attempts of infiltration and recently conducted successful operation in Handwara."
The encounter in Handwara had seen as many as 6 militants killed in a week-long operation. Army and police personnel were also injured.
The intelligence report assumes much prominence following the arrest of 26/11 handler and Lashkar-e-Toiba terrorist Abu Jundal and Delhi reiterating its demand on Pakistan's cooperation in nabbing Mumbai terror attacks mastermind and LeT founder Hafiz Saeed.
