The UPA, however, does not want to take chances with Mamata and wants to keep her in good stead as an important ally of the UPA. Pranab Mukherjee always known as an impressive trouble shooter for the UPA has been given the job to soothe Mamata's nerves.
According to reports, Pranab Mukherjee will arrive in Kolkata on Friday night and is scheduled to leave for his ancestral home at Miriti village in Birbhum on Saturday morning. It now remains to be seen if Pranab will visit Mamata in the meanwhile. He will embark on an official campaign tour after he files his nomination for the Presidential poll on Jun 30.
With the BJP too canvassing to get Mamata and the Trinamool Congress on board to pave the way for their nominee PA Sangma to the President's post, the UPA too wants to get the Trinamool Congress on their side.
Reports are also doing the rounds that Sangma may visit Kolkata on the same day as Pranab. But the chances of Mamata supporting Sangma look bleak especially since the NCP leader had briefly quit the party and joined the Trinamool Congress in 1995. He later dumped the Trinamool and went back to the NCP.
