Hyderabad, Jun 22: With YSR Congress chief YS Jaganmohan Reddy in the confines of the high profile Chanchalguda jail, the least one would expect there is a 12 hour power outage. But this was exactly that happened in the central prison that houses many high profile inmates like former excise minister Mopidevi Venkatramana, suspended IAS officers BP Acharya, Y Srilakshmi and KV Brahmanand Reddy, industrialists Nimagadda Prasad and Koneru Prasad besides Jagan.

The blackout occurred on Thursday with Jagan supporters springing into action and crying conspiracy. They engaged in rumour mongering that this was a sinister attempt to eliminate Jagan. [Read: Chanchalguda prison facing issue of security to spl inmates]

Jail officials claim that the power cut was reported in the early hours on Thursday and said that this was due to some glitches in one of the phases in the new prison block. The power was, however, restored by pulling a line from the vacant old prison block. The electricity department claims that the issue was fixed on Thursday evening and stated that there was no delay.

Venkateshwar Reddy, In-charge superintendent of Chanchalguda prison has been quoted as saying, "We immediately addressed the problem by disconnecting the third phase from the old prison block and connecting it to the new prison block which holds all the inmates. The electricity department rectified the problem by Thursday evening." He added, "There was no issue about the security of the inmates, including the special prisoners, being compromised. The charges are baseless."

Jagan's wife, Bharathi had earlier filed a petition in the Andhra High Court seeking enhanced security for Jagan. The authorities, in reply, had stated that the requested security was only given to special category prisoners as per norms.
