Bangalore, Jun 19: Creating another trouble for Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), former Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa announced that he is backing UPA's nominee Pranab Mukherjee for the upcoming presidential election which is going to be held on Jul 19.

Media reports on Tuesday, Jun 19 said that Yeddyurappa conveyed his decision to BJP high command about decision of supporting the Finance Minister. The former Karnataka CM is also expected to make an official announcement on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, sources reported that BJP may support PA Sangma who is the candidate of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa and her Orissa counterpart Naveen Patnaik.

Janata Party supremo Subramanian Swamy, who earlier had raised the name of former president APJ Abdul Kalam for the poll, is also expected to meet BJP senior leader LK Advani to take final decision on NDA's nominee.

Sources said BJP is firm that a contest should take place in the presidential poll keeping in view the 2014 Lok Sabha elections as well as the immediate prospect of winning more allies like AIADMK and BJD.

Advani has been authorized to NDA leaders and BJD and AIADMK leaders and may try to reach out to Trinamool Congress also. However, JD(U) and Shiv Sena, two key NDA allies, are said to be of the opinion that a contest is futile as the opposition does not have the numbers.
