New Delhi, Jun 16: In spite of the vociferous campaigning for APJ Abdul Kalam for the President's post, by West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee, she was virtually snubbed by the UPA after they went ahead and announced Finance Minister Pranab Mukerjee's name as their Presidential nominee. Mamata, not a person to give up so easily, has not abandoned her campaign and has now taken it online and what better way to do it that on Facebook.

The West Bengal CM launched her official Facebook page for this purpose on Friday night and used the popular social networking site to air her views on why she roots for Kalam as President.

In her first post on the Facebook page, she wrote, "We in the Trinamool Congress support Dr Kalam as the Presidential candidate. I have already given a clarion call to other parties to support Dr Kalam as President. Along with my other fellow citizens I can only urge them to consider this call. Let our country be led forward by people such as him, people of free thought and honourable action who will not hesitate to do what is just and right."

While Mamata has been troubling the UPA on many instances, this time around the Centre chose to take a firm stand and nominated Pranab Mukherjee as the Presidential candidate. Mamata, meanwhile, continues to blow hot and cold air occasionally threatening the UPA to throw er out if they did not want her and also speaking in the same breath that her intention was not to rock the boat.

It is very evident that the Presidential election issue has widened the rift between the UPA and the Trinamool Congress. There are also rumours doing the rounds that UPA Mamata was hoping for early elections that might hopefully give her a firmer footing in politics at the Centre.
