Nithyananda surprises all,surrenders before Ramanagara court

Bangalore, Jun 13: The self-styled godman surprised all as he on Wednesday, Jun 13 appeared before Ramanagara court and surrendered himself before the judge. He was accompanied by his advocates and two of his followers.

Nithyananda, who was missing since last 48 hours, was expected to visit his ashram in Bidadi, Bangalore on Thursday. But his decision to surrender himself before the court seems to be a step to avoid arrest. However, the Ramanagara court has sent him to judicial custody for one day. Karnataka High Court earlier on Wednesday adjourned the hearing over his plea to quash FIR against him till Friday. Thus, the Karnataka police still has authority to take the godman into their custody.

Nithyananda has been accused in several cases such as - rape, sexual harassment, land encroachment. Karnataka Chief Minister DV Sadananda Gowda ordered his arrest after a foreign national alleged that she was sexually abused at the hands of Nithyananda.

Reports reveal that the police recovered condoms, CDs and liquor during the raids at Nithyananda's Ashram in Bidadi.

Earlier, the self-styled godman stormed the world when a CD, which allegedly featured him with a South Indian actress in a compromising position, was broadcasted in TV news channels and the video went viral on internet.

Following the controversy, Nithyananda was arrested on Apr 21, 2010 from Himachal Pradesh and later granted bail on Jun 11, 2010. This time he is reportedly absconding.
