Mullaperiyar: UPA finds solution for Kerala, Tamil Nadu?

Mullaperiyar Dam
Thiruvananthapuram, Jun 12: It seems that the age-old controversy between Tamil Nadu and Kerala over Mullaperiyar Dam is going to be solved soon. This time Congress led UPA government might bring some good news for the two states as Union law and minority affairs minister, Salman Khurshid hinted that the dam row would be solved.

The minister, who visited Kochi on Monday, Jun 11 stated that an amicable settlement to the Mullaperiyar row would be found soon and the settlement would satisfy both Tamil Nadu and Kerala.

PJ Joseph, Minister for Water Resources, recently claimed that if the state and the Supreme Court allows, the Kerala government will build the new dam in two years.

He further said that the committee report submitted by the expert panel says that the construction of a new dam would take 10 years, but he promised that the state would construct the same in 2 years.

"The committee report says that it would take at least 10 years for the state to build a new dam, but I promise we can finish it in two years," said the minister.
