New Delhi, Jun 11: After the Supreme Court slammed the Centre over its decision to dole out 4.5% sub-quota for minorities within 27% OBC quota in educational institutions, Samajwadi party leader Mulayam Singh Yadav called in a press conference to reveal his views on the same and his party's stand in the upcoming Presidential elections.

Backing the Centre's stand on the minority quota issue, Mulayam said that Muslims should be given reservation according to the Sachar committee report. Quoting the report, the Sachar report had cited that the condition of the Muslims was worse than that of Dalits, he said. He refused to comment on the apex court quashing the Centre's plea on the sub quota issue.

On the Samajwadi Party's choice of Presidential candidate, he said, "The candidate should have a political background, we are not in favor of a bureaucrat. I do not know if the Congress has named Pranab Mukherjee as the party's candidate."

On SP supporting the UPA at the Centre, Mulayam minced no words and stated that their real intention to support the UPA was to keep the communal forces outpowered. He also used the occasion to spew venom on Gujarat CM Narendra Modi, when he said, "At least in UP we do not indulge in communal politics. We have only worked for empowerment of backwards."
