Jharkhand bypoll all set for Tuesday amidst tight security
KK Soan, Deputy Commissioner of Ranchi has been quoted as saying, "All necessary arrangements have been made for the Hatia bypoll scheduled for Tuesday."
A total of 4,02,181 voters will decide the fate of 29 candidates contesting in the polls. To ensure peaceful polling, 20 companies of state and para-military forces will be deployed. The polling will begin at 8 am and close at 5 pm.
Among the key parties contesting the bypoll are the BJP, the Congress, Jharkhand Vikas Morcha-Prajatantrik (JVM-P) and All Jharkhand Students Union (AJSU). The BJP and AJSU are partners in the current ruling alliance in Jharkhand. While the BJP has fielded Ramjilal Sarda, the Congress has fielded Sunil Sahay, and AJSU and JVM-P have given tickets to Navin Jaiswal and Ajay Nath Sahdeo, respectively.
The Hatia constituency seat fell vacant following Congress legislator Gopal Nath Sahdeo taking ill in 2010.
