Murder Case
Mohali, Jun 6: A local court sentenced a woman and her paramour to life imprisonment for murdering her husband, an engineer at Quark City, over six years ago. Additional District and Sessions Judge Rajinder Singh Rai sentenced Neki Nalwa and her paramour Himmat Singh Brandy to life imprisonment after holding them guilty of murdering Sukhwinderjit Singh on Dec 4, 2005. Singh was shot dead while taking a stroll with his wife in Sector 69 here.

Nalwa and Brandy were on Saturday convicted by the court under Section 302 (murder) and 120-B (criminal conspiracy) of the IPC and Section 25 of the Arms Act. In his judgment, Rai said, "It stands amply proved that Himmat Singh and Neki Nalwa had conspired with each other, and in pursuance of the said conspiracy, they committed the murder of Sukhwinderjit Singh by firing a shot from the pistol." The court also slapped a fine of Rs 25,000 each on Brandy and Nalwa.

The third convict in the case, Paramveer Singh, who was charged with supplying cartridges used in the crime, was on Monday convicted to six months' rigorous imprisonment and subsequently released on bail. While coming out of the courtroom, both Nalwa and Brandy said they would challenge the verdict in the High Court. Since their arrest on Dec 7, 2005, Nalwa and Brandy have been lodged in Patiala Central Jail.
