Announcing the bandh, YSR Congress Party district convenor Bommana Rajakumar stated, “the party has called for a three-day bandh in East Godavari district to protest against the arrest of Jaganmohan Reddy. We are requesting all institutions, commercial establishments to participate in the bandh.”
With an anticipated law and order problem following his arrest, the Hyderabad police had already issued Sec 144 in the city a day ahead of the arrest announcement. Bommana added that as many as 20 YSR Congress party workers have been put under house arrest in the Godavari district alone.
There are reports that the Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation's (APSRTC) Rajahmundry depot has cancelled its bus services considering the volatile situation in lieu of Jagan’s arrest. A top official of the APSRTC stated that around 400-500 buses that leave from Rajahmundry to various parts of the state daily have been cancelled.
He added, "As a precautionary measure, we have cancelled all bus services. We will monitor the situation tomorrow before deciding on resumption of the service. We don't want to bear losses in case of damage to buses. Earlier, during Telangana agitation, we had incurred huge losses."
